Your First Mission!
Welcome to The Smile Squad, future hero! Your first visit is way more fun than you think. Here's the secret plan β pinky promise. π€
Here's what we'll do together
High Fives at the Door
Miss Sam will be waiting with a high-five and the cape sign-out sheet. (Yes, you get a cape. Yes, you can keep it.) Mom or Dad fills out one quick paper while you spin the prize wheel for a sticker.
Squad HQ Tour
We give you the full tour. The arcade. The big slide. The wall of fame where your photo will hang. We show you the chair (it goes up AND down, it's basically a spaceship) and let you try the buttons before anything happens.
Tooth Counting Game
Dr. Maya counts your teeth out loud (you can count along!) using "Mr. Mirror" β a tiny mirror with a smile on it. She's looking for any sneaky sugar bugs hiding between your teeth, but mostly she's just saying "wow!" a lot.
Sparkle Cleaning
Miss Sam tickles your teeth with the "polishing twirly" (it kind of buzzes). You pick the toothpaste flavor: bubblegum, cotton candy, strawberry, or mint for the brave ones. The whole thing takes one song on Bluey.
Treasure Tower!
You earned it. Climb the official Treasure Tower and pick a prize: glow-in-the-dark dinosaur, slap bracelet, mini puzzle, or a Smile Coin to save for the BIG prize later. Plus your new toothbrush, a sticker, and your sworn-in Squad Card.
Movie Mode
Each chair has a TV on the ceiling. You pick the show β Bluey, Paw Patrol, Spidey, Octonauts, Frozen, or pick from Dr. Maya's secret list. We have headphones too if the room is buzzing.
Hey, parents β here's the real stuff.
We know your kid is the part that matters most. We also know you have questions.
When should kids start coming?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry says by age 1, or 6 months after the first tooth pops in. We make first visits at this age super short (15 min) and silly β mostly so YOU learn what to look out for. We call these "Lap Visits."
What if my kid has dental anxiety?
It's literally why we exist. Every team member is trained in pediatric behavior management, tell-show-do technique, and the magic of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for the really nervous ones. Special-needs and sensory-sensitive patients are our specialty β Dr. Carlos is bilingual and trained in sensory-adaptive care.
Do you take my insurance?
We're in-network with everything from CHIP and Medicaid through every major PPO. Text us a photo of your card the day you book, and we'll verify benefits before you walk in. No surprises.
Can I come back to the chair?
Yes β always, no questions asked. For kids under 5 we actually encourage it. Older kids sometimes do better when parents wait up front, but you know your kid better than we do, and the decision is always yours.
What if my kid has a cavity?
We tell you in plain English, show you on the screen, and walk you through every option β including watching it (some early cavities can be remineralized), composite fillings (no scary needles, kid-friendly numbing gel), or laughing gas if needed. We never recommend a procedure we wouldn't choose for our own kids.
How long will the appointment take?
First visits are 45β60 minutes door to door. Recall cleanings are 30 minutes. We run on time β if we're more than 10 minutes behind, the kids get an extra Treasure Tower pull. It almost never happens.
What to bring
Ready, hero?
First-visit slots open every Monday morning. We can usually get new patients in within 7 days.
